I have been using this computer for a week. I am very happy with the performance.
The computer itself was well built and it looks nice too.
Intel Pentium B960 2.2 GHz (2 MB Cache) is actually a DUAL Core processor, not as indicated by another reviewer. It runs fast at normal use.
The memory and hard drive are pretty standard at 4GB and 500GB which are enough for daily use.
It is not a fancy computer of course, but at this price, it's very good.

Having owned this machine for about 8 months since the posting of this review I can say that I'm quite happy with my purchase overall, despite not being a huge fan of Windows 8, which my unit came bundled with. It still runs fast, is lightweight and stays cool, and I really enjoy having the full keyboard with numeric pad. That said, I do have some minor complaints I have with the device, primarily relating to the screen, and also the speakers.
The display is glossy and wide. I would have definitely preferred an anti-glare screen. The overall size of the screen is adequate and the aspect ratio is good for movies, but the resolution isn't very high (maxes out at 768 pixels high) and I'd have preferred it to be taller and less wide, though that's unfortunately become quite rare in affordable laptops these days. Also, the internal speakers are really quiet and it can be hard to hear out of them when you're watching movies, even at a close distance. You'll probably need external speakers or headphones to get any significant volume or audio quality.
Shortly after purchasing the machine I attempted to replace Windows 8 with an version, which turned out pretty disastrously, and I'm fairly tech savvy. If you don't like the preinstalled OS, I'd recommend getting another device. Overall it's definitely a solid machine with a nice keyboard that still runs well for the price, though.

The main thing that I think a shoppers should get out of this review is that the price is good for a laptop that is reliable for casual use. I personally use it for college, surfing, light gaming, and music storage. I have had it for over 6 months now and it still works like it was the first day. Windows 8 takes some getting used to, but it's not that bad. The major (or only) gripe I have about this computer is the mouse pad. It is absolutely terrible, but a wireless mouse can take care of this problem. I downloaded a program to help with the mouse pad settings which helped some, but the mouse pad is still hard to use for me as it just doesn't read my motions accurately. I will swipe my finger in a direction and the pointer seems to get hung up and lags. Go out and get a $10-15 wireless mouse to save the headache, disable the mouse pad, then you will love this laptop!

Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 13.3-Inch Deals
By Paula O Farrell - (UK)
This review is from: Lenovo IdeaPad Yoga 13 13.3-Inch Convertible Touchscreen Ultrabook (Gray) (Personal Computers)
I just purchased the Lenovo Yoga 13.3 inch and love it. The screen is terrific with Music Reader for Windows. Yes, there is a little space at the bottom of each sheet music page which I find useful for add'l notes. Once you crop your sheet music, it fits even better. Much better than an IPad. The whole thing fits perfectly in my briefcase and is easy to hold for lap viewing. Very quiet unit. A side benefit is that I no longer need a light on my music stand.
I also love the way the keyboard hinges and folds behind the screen. Much better than the detachable keyboards which are a hassle. I recommend that you also purchase the Lenovo slip keyboard cover which can hold only the keyboard or the entire folded up tablet. The folded up tablet fits perfect on my music rack for both my piano and harp. All the other tablets had detachable or wireless keyboards which felt cumbersome to me. Purchase the screen protector directly from Lenovo for $9.99 which includes shipping. Amazon charges $29 for the same product. It has totally changed the way I play and my practice time is put to much better use.
The only negative is that it's much more expensive than similar tablets with slightly smaller screens. But I wanted a bigger screen and one that would be light weight and very portable.
I've only had it for a week but so far no problems.

Just opened the box this evening. This is my first Windows 8 PC. This is an awesome pc. It is a perfect fit for someone who loves the uses of a tablet but hates typing on touch screen. It is built very sturdy. It feels just like a laptop until you flip it into a tablet, it is a rather large feeling tablet but props up nice and is very user friendly.
I would recommend this product.

I have had my Yoga 13 for 6 months, working as a General Contractor and taking it with me EVERYWHERE. It has survived everything. I had written off so many times after some rough falls, long sits in the direct sunlight and having dust blow all over it, but it keeps surviving perfectly! The hinges are still solid and it works like new. I am on amazon tonight to buy a screen protector because I'm worried my kids will hurt it. haha!
I have an IT background so I do a lot of cool things with it and it keeps up with all of it. I've never regretted my purchase and have been very pleased with it's performance.
Lenovo is a good company- I've been to their main office in Beijing to see their product center where they show off their products that are coming out & they also announced that they are building a factory and office in North Carolina. Isn't that awesome for a Chinese company to do! Yeah!

I am very happy with my purchase, the laptop works great, loads fast, is functional for my requirements (administrative software management, accounting). I found it a little uncomfortable with the mouse because when writing sometimes place the cursor changes when you rub your hand over the surface, you could adjust the sensitivity and improve this point, browse the internet fine, operation is quiet and does not heat too much like other laptops, have available 2 USB 3.0 ports that have no taste because i dont haver such devices. I'm using Windows 8 for the first time and I have difficulties handling, but I understand that I will know as has happened with previous versions (although so far I like it :)) definitely would recommend this purchase

My daughter absolutely LOVES this laptop. Very good quality and a very good brand. Lenovo used to be called IBM and is a fantastic choice for any computer need. This laptop is fast and has plenty of memory and processing speed to keep the average PC user very happy. If you want a computer for gaming, I would suggest a different model that has a little more power but I would still go with a Lenovo brand. Much cheaper than Alienware. The same laptop on another site was about $80 more because of the shipping and tax which Amazon did not charge! Saved me a lot of money and made my daughter and me VERY happy.

I did not buy this Lenovo G580 computer from Amazon, but I'd like everyone to see this before they buy one.
I bought this laptop from local Fry's store, picked it up mainly because of the price. It seemed offered good value. But after one year of usage, I know I was wrong. Here is why.
1. It is made of cheap parts. Well, it is cheap, but still works, right?
2. It is heavy and ugly, my boy complained all the time.
3. It has a bad design flaw. After half a year light usage, the hinge part pops open, it turns out it uses the same tiny screws as the bottom cover, it is not strong enough.
4. At 11 months, blue smoke came out of the vent, it is totally toasted
5. Their repair service is really really bad. Did not hear anything from them after 3 weeks sending Lenovo the computer for repair, finally called them, find myself talking to someone in India who does not know anything. 2 days later, got a notice they shipped the computer
6. The battery shipped back can run only half hour now, not the original battery anymore.
7. 2 days later, the AC power adapter retreated into the case, cannot use it anymore.
8. Talk to them again, they said it is out of warranty.
9. Complained to BBB, but Lenovo refused to replace it
So after one year, this computer is complete dead. My 2005 Sony Vaio is still working. If I had spent $100 more, I could have picked up a much better computer and still be using it happily.
Conclusion: DO NOT BUY THIS COMPUTER, DO NOT BUY ANY LENOVO COMPUTER
You will regret if you do.

After shopping around what seemed like the entire internet, I came upon this laptop. I only had 500 dollars to spend, so I wanted to make the best possible decision. After inter comparing every feature and taking into account the reputation of the makers, I narrowed my choices down to one or two laptops, and eventually chose this one due to the price. I'm quite satisfied with it. The only thing I didn't like was windows 8, but with some modification and programs, I customized even that to my liking. Overall, this is a no frills laptop with excellent performance for the price.

Why is it cheaper than other laptops? It is because of all the bloatware it has; however, they can be uninstalled. It is a great at home office laptop with sold performance with 5 hour battery on battery saving mode. The accurate keyboard is great and smooth. I've had this laptop for a month now and I'm still a happy consumer!

I have had this laptop for a few months now, and I like it. The machine is reliable and hasnt had any issues.
My issues surround the trackpad, 1 its textured and after long term use, my fingers can become sore. The trackpad also butts rightup to the buttons and on many occasions I hit one and not the other. Beyond that, it does support multi touch, so you can zoom and drag down the page easily using multiple fingers.
The keys are good and responsive and have enough travel to make let you know you did something. Sound is very nice for a laptop. Dont expect deep bass reproduction from any laptop, but this is certainly clearer then any other laptop I've owned.
I would surely go Lenovo again, and would look at this laptop for a second purchase.

I bought this tablet to use it for my business to write notes and enter other data. It is very versatile and quick and easy to carry. The twist is great. I am able to set the computer in so many positions for my convenience. The hand writing recognition is excellent and it makes the corrections by itself. Web surfing is without any hitch. Overall it is a great tablet.

This computer has many good qualities. It does just about everything. My only complaint is that it can be slow. The touchscreen has a hard time keeping up with me at work. I say if the touchscreen was faster and the computer itself a little bit lighter, it'd probably be THE perfect computer.

Bought it to be used as a workhorse in molecular cell bio lab. Works reliably interfaced to all kinds of lab equipment. I purchased this exact model of the Lenovo G580 for $360 on Office Max (Limited time offer) and it came to $390 shipped. I have NOTHING bad to say about this laptop. Many say that "Windows 8 Sucks" but I LOVE it, especially when you apply the "classic shell" it operates just as Windows 7 with the benefit of all the apps of Windows 8. The ram is sufficient but since upgrading is possible, I will do it just for S&G's, probably to 8GB or so. The Core i3 3120M is AMAZING and better than most computers I have used in the past is baseline Pentium's and Core 2 Duo's. It hasn't skipped a beat and is LIGHTNING fast. Plays Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit (2010)on full settings flawlessly with the Intel HD 4000 integrated graphics which also are surprisingly superb for medium gaming and HD video. The feel is great, the keyboard is comfortable and around the keyboard seems to be aluminum. Very sturdy and looks amazing. I have not used the 3.0 ports but it is great that they are available for future use. The laptop is surprisingly light compared to my girlfriends 2008 HP Dv5 and is easy on the shoulder. The fan is ULTRA quiet and you have to hold it to your ear to hear if it is even running, it also has a cool "auto" fan cleaning feature under "Lenovo Power Management". Startup is QUICK.
An absolute beauty for ANYONE, for school, for work, and for entertainment. Who would want anything more? Completely impressed with Lenovo and their craftsmanship. I spent SO long to find an Acer but their pricepoints with comparable hardware just dont compare at all.
BUY THIS IMMEDIATELY, do not look any further.

I needed a cheap, inexpensive laptop that was powerful enough to handle Visual Studio and Database development tools. I found that this machine is well up to the task of a hardcore developer. What is great is that you can expand the RAM to 8 GB (4 GB from the manufacturer). Another good aspect is that the keys of the keyboard aren't easy for kids to try to pull off :)

Screen is just amazingly bright and beautiful when turned up how I like it!! Sound is loud and clear!! Keyboard is superb... Fan makes no real noise!! Fast as hell with a core I3... Two usb 3 ports in front. All the other important ports are there too. There is no Bluetooth but who cares? Not me.. This is simply a fantastic wonderful laptop. I always install Start8 software for 5 lousy bucks to turn windows 8 into a joy.

This review is from: Lenovo G580 59359688 i3-3120M 2.5 GHz 15" laptop (Personal Computers)
Got exactly what I paid for, for ~400$ this laptop isn't a bad buy, definitely not for gaming but for web browsing and taking notes/ making presentations for college it's served me very well. The uptick on the i3 processor (3120M, up from 3110M in other models) was worth the 10-20$ difference in price.
Pros: Fast on boot up, very sleek looking, the keyboard feels pretty good for a laptop and it even comes with a number-pad, and as someone who uses the number-pad a lot this is great as more and more laptops are just leaving them out to save either on space or increase key size. Also, the DVI and HDMI out ports are very convenient for when I'm in a situation that doesn't require me to be mobile. The trackpad is actually pretty good, I've read a lot of hate on this model because of the trackpad, and despite being non-multitouch (which most laptops are not) it functions very well. Sound is actually fairly good for a laptop, speakers can get pretty loud, but the sound on the laptop itself is on-par, if not better, than my desktop on-board audio (H61M-P35 G3). On top of that they also have a reserved partition for all the laptop drivers, some people might not like this as it's just more work for them to be getting the full amount of HDD space they paid for, but I find it useful in-case I ever need to reinstall windows whenever my linux partition starts giving me issues.
Cons: These are all personal gripes I have, might not be the products fault but I think it warrants a few comments.
The finish is very glossy, while this looks nice aesthetically, after about a day of use you're going to have fingerprint marks all over the laptop.
Bloatware ho!: This laptop comes with a decent amount of extra crap (lenovo cam manager, something called "freeridegames," McAfee anti virus, Amazon store app built in (might be from win8 though). I understand manufacturers want to make some more money by marketing, but as a consumer I don't like having to remove all the extra crap included, especially if they boot up on start. Easy fix with 20min of uninstalling and checking to make sure you're not uninstalling some obscure driver (this happened to me as i had never heard of Aetheros Communications, so i figured it was a VoIP service and uninstalled, turns out it was the wireless card driver, not a big issue as they included drivers in a separate partition on the hard drive.
Windows 8 is pretty awful, but that's not the products fault.
Camera isn't the best quality, but it works fine for skype-ing.

For me this is a pro, but for others it might be a con, the battery life @ 100% is about 6 or so hours, that being on the "balanced" power setting in windows, you can squeeze out more if you use Linux (such as arch or ubuntu) but i imagine that's not much help to the average user.

Cheap and does what I want. I'm not too found of Windows 8, but the laptop is quiet and fast.
